This is my first attempt ever at any sort of web design (besides the obvious html tinkering back when xanga was a thing)

Sorry if it sucks/doesn’t work!

So, when are we going to put posters up around the U.S. with this cat’s face on them?

Kony2012 is a video that went viral about a month ago. Released by a political organization called Invisible Children, the video depicted a vicious leader named Joseph Kony that was kidnapping children for his army in Uganda. The response was incredible. Thousands of users of Facebook and Twitter began to post about how inhuman Kony is, that he needs to be stopped, and how they “support” the capture of this vigilante.

Although the power of the internet allowed this organization to spread the word about Kony and the Lords Resistance Army terrorist group that he leads, it has also afforded the truth about Invisible Children and their shady finance records.

I came across a blog that provided facts about the company taken directly from public financial records for the not-for-profit organization.

“Invisible Children has been condemned time and time again. As a registered not-for-profit, its finances are public. Last year, the organization spent $8,676,614. Only 32% went to direct services (page 6), with much of the rest going to staff salaries, travel and transport, and film production. This is far from ideal for an issue which arguably needs action and aid, not awareness, and Charity Navigator rates their accountability 2/4 stars because they lack an external audit committee. But it goes way deeper than that.”

My issue with this organization stems from a different aspect; a certain detail that should enrage the millions of Americans that feel good about themselves for calling Kony an asshole. Invisible Children provides direct support to the Ugandan army and even poses for very bro-like photo ops with them (see below)

The Ugandan Army has been actively searching for Kony for a few years now, even “rescuing” children from the LRA camps. According to records from a clinic in South Sudan, two Ugandan soldiers brought a 15 year old girl to the emergency room after practically gang-banging her for a few hours and getting her pregnant. The attack was so brutal that she was “nearly dead.” Several reports of brutal rape of underage girls have surfaced, yet Invisible Children provide them with direct financial support.

Stories like this should outrage the youth that are posting about Kony on Facebook. Some white hipster organization that spends more money on film-making that actual support shouldn’t be the top trending charity in the world right now.

It makes me sick that these “brony’s” are so eager to post about hating a person they’ve just learned about when fucking RUSH LIMBAUGH (see below) is slamming women, lgbt, and non-whites almost DAILY. Where are the Brony’s that want to take on Rush? Where are the Brony’s when a woman asking for birth control is called a slut and told to “hold a piece of Aspirin between her knees.”

These people make me sick. You’re not a hero for updating for fucking status. You’re not a hero for wearing a red bracelet everyday that says Kony2012. You are a privileged white American that will never never experience even 1% of the suffering that these young girls and boys went through.

Photo Assignment – Silence (and noise)

The assignment was to capture five silent areas in Hunter. As we were shooting, we found noise in some unlikely places. We decided to keep them, mostly because we had already deleted the other pictures. The result is an uneasiness in the entire sequence of photos.
